Incarceration is a highly-regarded and debated topic in the global perspective. While the stereotypical incarceration system shown in movies and other forms of media depict prison as a place where criminals are imprisoned against their will and denied their rights under the authority of the states, Scandinavian countries are often praised for their progressive approach to this subject, where rehabilitation and correctional skills are prioritised over punishment. The approach focuses on humane skills to find the causes of criminal behaviour and equipping inmates with the tools they need to succeed and become law abiding citizens. This ensures that inmates can be reentered into society as productive citizens as opposed to simply penalising them and releasing them with little idea of how to work in modern society. As the world progresses, the imprisonment systems aim to radicalize the often cruel incarceration form into systems where prisoners are allowed to flourish in a plethora of skills.

Director
Currently in the midst of completing her high school MUN career and her senior year at Richmond Christian School, Emmly is ecstatic to be serving as the Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. While her inaugural entrance to a MUN conference evoked a plethora of emotions, Emmly grew to realize that this seemingly intimidating extracurricular circulated frequently among the friends you make along the way. Since that fateful weekend in 2021, she has grown to cherish the unforgettable crisis sessions that never fail to make her laugh, and to accept that the elevator will never arrive on time. Outside of the committee room, Emmly can be found cowering with fear in the boxing ring, trying to merge into lanes with angry drivers, and waking up at 5 a.m. in order to be first in line for Breka. Emmly wishes all attendees good luck in their pre-conference preparation and looks forward to an incredible weekend in October!

Chair
As a Grade 9 student at St. George’s School, Parnav is delighted to serve as the Chair of the UNODC at SPAMUN 2024. Parnav began his MUN journey in Grade 7, and since his first speech (which lasted 15 seconds), he has begun to enjoy the research and insight into foreign policy that MUN provides. Not only that, Parnav enjoys the early morning coffee runs with friends, the insightful debates, procrastinating position papers until the deadline, and late night chats with friends. When not raising placards and learning about random countries, Parnav enjoys watching political documentaries on Youtube, playing cricket, learning about history (enjoying is a bit of a stretch though), playing with his younger brother, binge watching TV shows, spelling seraglio, and doing anything else to avoid doing his homework. Parnav can’t wait for a conference full of exciting and lively debates, unforgettable fun, and a lot of other shenanigans.

Assistant Director
Hansah is very excited to be going into her junior year at Urban Academy and is even more excited about being the assistant director for UNODC! She was first introduced to MUN by her Socials 9 teacher and was excited for her first conference, VYMUN 2022. She fell in love with it and is very passionate about every conference she attends. She always enjoys the spirited debates, late nights writing papers, early morning Tim Hortons and outfit planning for conferences. Participating in MUN conferences has ignited a passion for public speaking and debate in Hansah that she will continue in for the rest of her life. She has made many friends through MUN and treasures the memories it has given her. Hansah hopes to make this iteration of SPAMUN the best one yet and wishes every delegate the best of luck in their pursuits. Outside of MUN, Hansah enjoys reading, running, and trying to beat her brothers in FIFA and golf.
